The Wash

Eric Smith

Once again The Wash will not happen this year.

This opens a window for someone else to do a fundraiser for the food share or charity of their choice. The Ice Bowl is a popular tournament done during the winter or someone can do a fundraiser that is PDGA sanctioned. I have found that more golfers attend “tournaments” where there is actual competition and they can get PDGA points.

Newport Shark Bite TouRNey

Jay Sexton

WDGC folks,
If you have not been to Newport’s Wilder DGC this is a great opportunity to test yourself in the coastal wilderness!!
A person and their plastic, alone, challenging the forest, the fearsome gullies, and the swirling of wind and luck, yearning for the chains of redemption!
If you are not up to it then just stay in your pleasant interior valley,  strolling through the short grass, listening to the singing birds and gazing at the flowers.

The first tourney at Wilder in Newport is May 17th.
Live music, beer, smiling Nursing Students as spotters on the course!

The 1st Annual OCCC Shark Bite TouRNey will take place on May 17th at the Wilder Disc Golf Course in Newport. All funds from this event will support the Oregon Coast Community College nursing program and scholarships for nursing students. Along with an official disc golf tournament for pro and amateur players, the day will include food, a beer garden, music and fun activities for the whole family

UPDATE... Coffee in morning for players by Dutch Bros. Players pack: stamped custom mini, festival type beer mug, one beer ticket & one raffle ticket for a portable basket, t-shirt, shopping bag & discount for food vendors. Custom made trophies will be awarded to the each player on the top two teams in each division. Custom fundraiser Gateway discs are available for an additional $10.00 at the tournament. Music, trees & entertainment provided at no charge.
Also we'll have CTP's for each division, a raffle & ring-of-fire after the awards.

It is a random doubles, with 4 divisions (MPO(pro open), MA2(male int), MA3(male rec), and FA3(female rec) .

One round, $35 entry, big players pack, portable basket raffle, fund raiser for Oregon Coast Community College nursing program scholarship.

details:

registration:

Also TD Tina asks on facebook:“Would anyone be interested in a glow round on the new 9 holes course at South Beach State Park after the tournament? The baskets aren't in yet, so we'd be going old school style with wooden posts. If there's enough interest, I'll get it in the works.”

Three of the Wilder DGC holes are sponsored by the WDGC club and members.

See you there,

Jay

Sunday Doubles

Sunday Doubles (11am tee, tomorrow, Adair. $4 entry, $1 mulligans (up to 2), $1 ace pot)
Hey all.  I'm back!  Ok, so no one noticed.  I've not been able to make the last 3 Sunday Dubs and it's been KILLING me!
I have a bunch of CTP plastic, beer, and other stuff that needs to go out to the peeps!
I made it to Friday PM dubs at Dallas yesterday (That was REALLY fun btw, thanks guys!) and I know a bunch of those hombres are planning on coming down Sunday.  We're going to make it a big spring blow out!  I may have been slightly altered yesterday, but I'm pretty sure I threw out to plan for 7 CTPs!
Looking forward to seeing you all out there!!

College Matching Baskets Program

The Disc Golf Foundation facilitates the advancement of disc golf. Particularly through new course development. One program the DGF offers for this is the College Matching Baskets Program.

Through this program, the DGF agrees to donate 9 baskets to a college or university, if the approved institution purchases 9 baskets at retail price (plus shipping for all 18 baskets) and agrees to install and maintain the course on their property.

  • Guidelines

1. Only colleges or universities are eligible for this program.

2. Golf course must be open to the public.

3. Land for course must be on college property and must have been approved for this use by the college.

4. If grant is awarded, the college must install the course within one year.

5. A qualified designer must be involved. The DGF is happy to help locate a local designer to provide assistance.

6. A financial plan must be presented.

7 . Tee pads, signs, message board, and trash cans are recommended.

The DGF has made arrangements to offer three different disc golf baskets: the Mach V by DGA, the DISCatcher by Innova-Champion, or the Chain Star by Discraft Inc. The choice of the baskets to be used is at the discretion of the college. Be aware though that only one set of baskets will be offered a year by each of these manufacturers through the College Matching Baskets Program. Thus a first choice may not always be available.

Also note that the DGF will provide the 9 baskets only. All other baskets, tee signs, tee pads, design, installation, maintenance and shipping costs are the responsibility of the college.

  • Making a Proposal

Please click here to open and print the proposal for the College Matching Baskets Program.

When the proposal has been completed and sent to the DGF, the Board of Directors will discuss and make a decision. A time period of up to 6 months may occur before a decision is made, as it will be addressed and voted on at a semi-annual Board Meeting.

I have done some checking on baskets but was focused on the DGA variety.
Mach II's like we have at Adair and Willamette not be available anymore.
They make Mach II portables which have a 2 piece pole, like a DB-5 I
guess.

Mach Vs run about $50 less than Mach IIis which come with the number
plate.  $340/$390 at discunlimited.net, $30 less for no frills.
Portable priced the same at the deluxe all the parts for installing in the
ground.

Powder coating costs another $50 per basket.  Blue Sparkle and Orange
Glaze are the standard colors.

I have not contacted anyone yet about getting pricing for 9 or more
baskets.

Discraft makes a Chainstar which looks pretty good but they were $420 each
one place I saw them.

did that happen at lbcc?

I'll keep my eyes peeled and will pass this along on discgolfscene.

make sure to call the local Playitagains (Eugene, Corvallis, Beaverton)

I know that has produced results in the past because they are pretty solidly against fencing stolen goods in their business model.

sorry storrs.  no good deed goes unpunished, eh?

A few of the discs were special. I had a disc dyed with a VW logo on it and another with an old school Benny. I had a BSF wood chip putter that is pretty unique too. The bin contained some Festivus and Whistlers Bend Doubles tourney stamps (the only tourneys I go to anymore). My bag was an orangish/brown Revoloution Bag. On the putter pocket was a patch with my name like you would find on a mechanics uniform and another one on the rain fly. On the side is a BSF patch from years ago.

My bad for not taking the stuff out of the van. My bad.

Big thanks to all of the club members that came out to help maintain the Willamette Park Disc Golf course.
I don't need to name names as you all know who you are, and thanks again.
It's so great when our partner, Corvallis Parks and Recreation, lines up volunteers for us to help with the maintenance of our old friend. It makes it as easy as leaning on a shovel.
If you didn't make it this time, maybe you can make the next one. Anyone. Really.
