Date

Membership Tournament and Bag Tag Finale at Blodgett Woods on Sat 12/18

Greg Johnson

Hi all,

The Blodgett Woods course has officially reopened. It is set up on Udisc and you can contact me anytime about coming out to play the course.
The extra hole that crosses the back yard to the Marksman basket between holes 8 & 9, is not mapped or included in the Udisc scorecard.

I set a portable restroom back up in advance of the upcoming WDGC Membership renewal event and Bag Tag Finale. You do not need to be in the bag tag to participate in the event. Robert will have additional prizes/payouts for those who have been participating in the clubs bag tag series.

Membership renewal is $10 for 2022, $15 for families/households. There will be an event entry fee too, of no more than $20.
There is no pre-registration just show up the morning of December 18, 2021, 8:00-8:45am registration.

The event is posted on discgolfscene.com

Also, I am planning Festivus for Saturday February 5th. Registration is set up and scheduled to open on discgolfscene.com at 5 or 6pm on Tuesday December 7th.

Some of you will get this message in duplicate. I plan to forward it in BCC mode to all e-mail addresses that I have for WDGC club members.

Cheers,

Greg Johnson

An update!

Robert Voss

Hello all,

My apologies that it has been long enough since I last emailed. To be honest, nothing much has been going on with WDGC to report or promote. The Tuesday leagues moved to Saturday, as we had previously discussed, and Sunday dubs is going again thanks to Alex Peters. I think we did inform about both of those things. The only tournament I have scheduled for the balance of 2021 is the bag tag finale.

The more recent news is the developing tournament schedule. Here is where that is at:
- Hoping for our annual club tournament and membership drive out at Greg's soon! His property is pretty beat up after the recent weather. Maybe we can give him a hand.
- December 18, bag tag finale, Willamette
- January 23, Ice Bowl for food Share, Willamette
- Feb 5, Festivus, Adair
- April 2(or 3, or both, tbd), April Fools Dubs, Willamette?
- June, hatching a plan for a special event... more to follow.
- July 9-10, President's Cup B-tier, Adair and TBD
- August 13-14, Willamette Open B-Tier, Adair and TBD
- August (18 or 19 or 20, TBD), Senior Games tourney, Adair
- December 17, bag tag finale, Willamette

That would put us at 5 non-sanctioned and 2 PDGA scheduled with that list, not counting bag tag finales or senior games. Pop ups were well received and attended this year even on very short notice. We can expect 2 or 3 pop up C-tier tournaments to fill in some gaps, and I am looking to add a sanctioned doubles tournament in there. Probably in that Sept/Oct blank since the President's Cup is no longer in September.

Hope you are all doing well and getting out to throw some plastic! I have some thoughts about trying a holiday party again, but, you know, COVID... Might try to put together something small for those that would want to attend. I'll let you know :)

Best,

Robert Voss

The internet just isn't great for this sort of nuanced analysis and reassurance.

Yellowjackets are NOT making new nests at this time of year, they're
breeding queens to overwinter under rocks, lawn furniture, in wood
piles, etc., while the rest of the hive dies out.  What you're seeing
is yellowjackets scavenging for food for the queens they're raising.
One of two things is/has happened (I'm a honeybee keeper):

1) The honeybees have (mostly) gone dormant for the winter, reducing
their numbers to just what's needed to keep their queen alive and
help with the rearing of their new brood in January, and the
yellowjackets are scavenging from them, attacking honeybees, killing
them, chewing their heads, legs, and wings off, then flying their
bodies back to the yellowjacket nest for food, and/or stealing the
pollen and honey from the nest.
2) The honeybees have died out (it happens), and the yellowjackets
   are scavenging from what's left.

In case #1, you don't want anyone to do anything, or you'll
potentially kill the honeybee hive also. In case #2, the problem
will take care of itself shortly (within weeks, at most) as the
worker yellowjackets die off, leaving only queens hiding out in
nooks and crannies all over the place (but not in that tree, most
likely). Regardless, there is NOT a yellowjacket nest in the tree.

Either way, the best thing is to just wait 2-3 weeks. Colder temps
will solve the problem.

Best wishes,

Return of Festivus & the Blodgett Course

Greg Johnson

While not set up yet on discgolfscene yet until I sort out some details on players pack and trophy costs, to determine what I should charge for entry fees.

I am announcing the planned date of Saturday February 5th. This is the weekend before the Superbowl which is a week later than it has ever been with the longer NFL regular season. I will likely open up registration in late Nov/early Dec.

I don't know yet if we will be asked to move out of the oak grove and set up a winter layout again this year. I may have that to deal with in November. I'm not volunteering to do it proactively and hoping that we do not need to. If we do, I will avoid the swampy area we played through to the old practice basket location last winter..

I also plan on reopening my Blodgett Wood's course probably the week of Thanksgiving.
It is a mess now with tons of huge yellow maple leaves coming down for the next couple of weeks.

Alex, can you repost this for me on the evil FB?

Cheers,

Greg

Re: Meeting Confirmation | 09/06 or 09/13

Good morning,

Yes sir, meetings are scheduled on the first Monday of the month unless it collides with the major holiday, which this is considered. It will be the next Monday, the 13th.

Best,

Rob

I haven't seen any CalNotices go out for it yet, but if the holiday is major enough for someone to make a GIF this cool, my first assumption was that it was probably just an oversight in scheduling :)

Hi all, happy holiday weekend!
I wanted to confirm if the upcoming September Club Meeting is postponed to Monday 9/13 due to Labor Day?

I haven't seen any CalNotices go out for it yet, but if the holiday is major enough for someone to make a GIF this cool, my first assumption was that it was probably just an oversight in scheduling :)

Cheers!
