Hello from Georgia

Josh Powell <powelloregon@...>

Missing the WDGC experience since I moved out here in June to Athens, GA.
We have a world-class 23-hole course with 3 different concrete tee-pads w/ 3 different pin positions.
http://www.pdga.com/course_directory/course/sandy-creek-park

While I don't mind the $3 fee to play each time (keeps those blasted college kids away)....they don't allow alcohol or dogs off-leash. I've made it my priority to test my limits each time by allowing my dog to run wild in the woods for most of the round and sneaking god's great miracle drink (Pabst Blue Ribbon) in my Nalgene bottle.

These guys in Georgia could learn a thing or two with the great organizing you guys have!  Enjoy the fact you have two great 18 hole courses for a city the size of Corvallis!

Hope to visit Corvallis in the Spring!

As you've probably already been notified, I've uploaded a PDF of the
course map for the President's Cup, along with hole-by-hole directions:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wdgc/files/Tournaments/President%27s%20Cup/PresidentsCup2012Map.pdf

I plan to put up hole signs and maybe some of the temp tee-pads
tomorrow (Tuesday), and maybe cut a little grass on P.C. holes 6 and 7,
and I'll be moving a couple of the baskets back into their needed
positions today.  Several baskets will need to be moved the day-of,
as some baskets are not used in their regular positions, but rather
get doubled up on other holes (Basket #3 moves to #4-short, Basket #10
moves to #5-long), and three temp baskets get added for P.C. holes
#7, 12 and 15.  We won't have enough temp tee pads to cover all of the
holes, so I'll be spreading them out where the likelihood of mud-holes
is the greatest.

Repeated WARNING: if you play the P.C. layout before the day of the
tournament, WATCH FOR and YIELD TO regular course players.  Several
holes are particularly dangerous, such as P.C. #8 which is a blind
throw across regular hole #13 to #12 basket, P.C. hole #18 which throws
across holes #3 and #2 to #2's basket, and so on.  LOTS of opportunities
for accidents, and we need to be responsible Disc Citizens.

Be careful out there!

Subject: JohnR's Presidential Platform (DRAFT)

[Approximately in order and DRAFT because it's a living, breathing, working document]
  • Sustainable Friendly: Doing no harm—nature bats first;
  •  “Safe,” Efficient Meetings—facilitating with Permaculture ideas in mind (see attachment 1. CollaborativeMeetingFacilitation);
  • Proposer in Chief—as the US government, The President proposes Congress disposes. (In our case Membership disposes of ideas, solutions, initiatives, eg. a dictator free zone, Disc Tzar excepted);
  • Open, Democratic Process—Membership is informed and consulted in advance;
  • Reliance on Group Wisdom—(Fact: Diverse groups free of preconceived bias, manipulation and peer pressure make better decisions even than experts);
  • Accountable Leadership Standards—Club officers should be evaluated on well-defined attendance and performance criteria;
  • Member Volunteer and Stewardship Incentives;
  • Strategic Planning and Operation—Beginning with a carefully facilitated visioning process, decisions are based on clearly-defined goals, strategies and desirable, measurable outcomes;
  • Sound Fiscal Management—Budgeting and priorities-based spending. (Based on a structured, guided visioning process);
  • Sustained, Collaborative, Open, Functional Governmental Relationships;
  • Defined, Semiannually-Reviewed Course Maintenance Standards;
  • Dispersed, Decentralized Power—decisions are made as a group with rare exceptions for emergencies;
  • Persistent Active Membership Program with Targets and Timelines;
  • Wide Community Outreach & Collaboration—engaging natural allies such as local businesses, service clubs, tourism boards, governmental entities, etc.;
  • Conflict Aversion & Resolution;
  • Fair, Conflict-of-Interest-Free Meeting Facilitation;
  • Bias for Facts, Information and Verifiable Truths;
  • National Politics Free Zone;
  • Less Verbosity—Windbag Free Zone;
  • Improvisational, Creative Management Approach (see Stanford “Idea Doctor” Roger von Oech’s books and attachment 2. Improv Wisdom);
  • Elder Wisdom (see attachment 3. Too Soon Old);
  • Time Commitment—(In my case 20-30 hours per week);
  • Fun & Funnier—Maintaining perspective and keeping a sense of humor.

Cheers and please vote early and often.

Umm... I'm not sure I feel entirely comfortable talking about any
'hard-up' that Kelly might have...

but he would probably have to set it up the night before.
I have a cheap one with "tent poles" that you have to put together,
and it's kind of a pain-in-the-arse and would definitely have to be
put up the day before, which is why I was hoping for the "scissor"
style pop-up frame that goes together pretty quick.

On another subject: WATERPROOF PAPER for scorecards... can anyone tell
me where to acquire it for printing up some scorecards?

If anyone else has one that they can bring, two would be nice. But
at least one will give us an area to work on the scorecards and such
without standing in the rain. (And I like to think I'm being

Cool! Those are the clipboards that Greg usually has? Or are these
others? Are you playing in the President's Cup? If so, you could
just bring the basket and clipboards the morning-of. Otherwise, I'll
arrange to get them from you ahead of time.

Thanks!

Re: Hole 1 at Willamette

There has been a rebar marker, not as deep as the other placement, with a "flag" on it.
The conversations I've had lead me to to believe that most folks would prefer not to have the deep location. If it was only going to be used for tourny's, then a portable could be used instead...
Let's vote on it at the next meeting.

Is the long placement the long ago abandoned anchor of the original hole 2?

I doubt we would use it much because it messes up the flow to hole 2.  If we are allowed to use it we might as well include it on the sign.
