Jan meeting, agenda, updates

Robert Voss

Hello all,

It has been a bit since I sent out an update to the email list, so here it is!

Meetings:
Our next club meeting is January 6th at 6 PM at Woodstock's Pizza. If you didn't already know, we voted to hold all 2020 at Woodstock's this year. The experiment of trying a new venue didn't work out as we had hoped. This easier than dealing with the City, and more people seem to appreciate the availability of food and drink.

Leagues:
The Winter Saturday Leagues start January 4th (tomorrow!). We have multiple options that can be mixed and matched, and changed every week as you see fit.
1.) Handicap League ($5 a week paying out $4, +$1 ace pot)
2.) PDGA League ($2 a week add on if want to get rated rounds logged in any division)
3.) Bag Tags League ($2 a week that all goes to the finale and next opener)
--- bag tags will go on sale January 25th at Festivus, which will also be tracked as our bag tag opener (the bag tag league option officially starts that day)
--- we will also have bag tags with no number for those who don't want the competition side of tags, those folks do not pay the $2 a week
4.) Debating on running a flex start from 9 to 10 AM that would require a 3 person team to start.

Sunday doubles is still going at 11 AM, though has been very lightly attended. Then, the Waterloo folks decided to run a doubles that starts at 1 PM - precluding being able to do both - which won't help. I am thinking we need to do doubles earlier, like 9:30 to 10 AM start, so we can be out of there about noon.

Tournaments:
The tournament schedule is pretty much complete. Need input from Greg on April tournament, but basically done besides that. There are 10 as of now, with 3 PDGA sanctioned and 7 non-sanctioned. I am looking at adding another PDGA, but that is in the air at the moment.
1.) First one is Festivus on January 25th. Come to the club meeting to sign up, or go to www.4discgolf.com.
2.) Next one is the Wild Willy Ice Bowl on February 8th, which a fundraiser for Linn-Benton Food Share. Player packs include a nested mini set, choice of an Ice Bowl stamped disc, and a hot lunch! Find it on Facebook or sign up on www.discgolfscene.com.
3.) The rest of the schedule will be announced at the meeting.

Projects:
Finally done with tee signs at Willamette! We added posts and 18 signs are installed.
1.) Also have etiquette sign coming from Dayna (will go above tee sign on hole #1), and a duplicate sign for the long tee on #2.
2.) I want to get post caps installed. I will need to cut off and level the tops of the posts, and will drill and screw the caps in place. Cost will be $60-110 depending on what post caps we get. Most of our club money is out and tied up in tournaments preparation, but I will get on this as soon as I can.

I am looking at some course improvements upgrades as my primary projects for the year, next to running tournaments and leagues. By and large, it seems most folks are participating in tournaments more tan anything else, so I will necessarily focus much of my time on running awesome tournaments, and lots of them.

Come let us know if you have any ideas, or even a smaller project that you are passionate about that I can help you accomplish on your own.

Email list:
If you no longer want to receive these emails, there are links at the bottom to unsubscribe from the list. Remember, you cannot be a voting member if you do not subscribe to groups.io email, since all votes are done at meetings or via email.

And the usual note, please do not reply or reply all to this email unless you intend to. There are also links at the bottom of the email to reply directly to the sender, for example.

All of this will be discussed in more detail at the club meeting. We hope to see you there!

Best regards,

Rob

Festivus 2020 Registration

Greg Johnson

Hi all,

If you haven't heard already, Festivus is Saturday, January 25th.

Thank you Robert for setting up the Festivus event on Facebook.

I have mostly figured out a 22 hole layout. We will stay out of the oak grove by the road, and like last year we will stay out of the muddy woods. The mix of new winter layout holes and temp holes that circle through the parking area & tournament central will help the flow and average walking distance at the end of the rounds.

We will need 8 portable baskets for the 22 holes. I am looking for help with baskets at least the level of the Adair baskets.  Others/extras can be set up around tournament central for practice putting.  I need to haul a bunch of other stuff, so I will only bring 2 or 3 of mine.

I submitted the information to set up Festivus registration on 4discgolf.com
I expect it to go live at 6pm on Monday 12/30.

I only opened 64 spaces on line with 20 reserved for club members through the January 6th club meeting at Woodstocks.
I am looking for club members to contribute hot dishes and other foods in support of this annual event.
Let me know if you can't make the club meeting and want a spot, and let me know what you can commit to bring to support Fesitvus.
discgolfgreg@...

Sadly we won't have the long running Calapooia Sponsorship with the recent change in ownership. One less crock of chili too.
This will be a BYO beverages event. We will try to come up with a different Feasts of Strength competition, tossing the keg was fun but hazardous to backs and shoulders so interest had declined.

I am also looking for a couple of people that cannot play for health or other reasons and would like to help and join the Festivusties.
Everett traditionally tends the foods and tournament central but this weekend conflicts with his grandkid's birthdays.

Happy New Year Everyone
Looking forward to a Merry Festivus

At the work party we will be installing new posts where necessary and installing the brand new tee signs. The City will be joining us with a powered auger and all the tools.

Come help us finish this project and get to be a part of the history of Willamette Park disc golf course. The club will provide snacks and refreshments.

Sorry about that. The time was moved back an hour when the work party was rescheduled. I forgot to change the event on Facebook.

It is 10 AM we are meeting. If people have gloves they can bring that is great, but Park Ranger Steve usually brings some, as well. He is bringing the equipment and tools, so we should not need to worry about anything in particular.

Have a great day.

Description: Monthly club meeting, first Monday of the month, except when that collides with a MAJOR holiday, then it's the second Monday of the month (usually).

Formal club business oriented meetings are EVEN months at Tunison, and less formal, more social meetings are at Woodstocks in ODD months, where we talk about what's going on in disc golf locally, what projects or events we are working on that need help from club members, league updates, discs for sale, and propose topics for the following month's business meeting.
